Cibo Matto On BTVS

A net surfer from Colorado found this here cup of joe today while searching for some info on the band Cibo Matto, which is a band I discovered while watching Buffy The Vampire Slayer. It's one of several bands that show featured and is a tasty peice of 90s pop.

The episode is the first of the second season, "When She Was Bad" and Buff arrives at the Bronze to tease her friends. She's mean and sexy for most of the episode, and as a member of the male sex, I felt much sympathy for poor Xander, who is dragged to the dance floor for some way-too-close dancing.

Since school is back in session now, and this is a back-to-school episode and since I'll take any excuse to hype Buff and the work of writer/director Joss Whedon, here is a clip from that episode with Cibo Matto playing "Sugar Water" from their CD Viva! La Woman. (Sadly the clip ends before Cordelia gets to make her "get over yourself" speech to Buff and yes I know waaaaaay to much about BTVS.)

"Spank your inner moppet" is one of my favorite quotes from the entire show.
    Entire speech is quoted here....

  2. inner moppet, heh heh.

my favorite line from this episode is when the school's principal says "There are some things I can just smell. It's like a sixth sense" to which Giles the Watcher replies "Actually, that would be one of the five."

    Whedony goodness!
(good god ... quoting lines? shades of a comic-con)

Ah, well, I dunno what to say w/out any specific questions. I haven't heard any reunion rumors. However, they did record one song together for a comp disc. One popular misconception is that Miho is the voice behind the Noodles character in Gorillaz. However she was only on a few songs from the first record.

  6. I did not know that about the 1st Gorillaz CD -- do you know which tunes? My copy of the CD came via a friend and has no liner info other than titles.

And no, I don't think any reunion or future work from the group is ahead - too bad.

"19-2000" and "Re-Hash." You can find her all over the place, though, if you're into turntablism and electronica. Works a lot with Dan the Automator (who produced the first Gorillaz record), appears with the Beastie Boys, Del, and Blackalicious, though it's mostly very brief appearances.

  8. sweet! those are two great tunes w/ Gorillaz. hate to hear her efforts are drifting into the background though. but mainstream music doesn't tolerate much quality!
