State Ponders Dropping Out of Daylight Savings Time

A bill has been filed to exempt the state from observing Daylight Savings Time, from Rep. Curry Todd and Sen. Janice Bowling.

I'd sure like the time changes to stop and for us to just have one time system. But there will likely be passionate debate on the topic for and against. Some things, unlike Time, never change.

  1. Could be a pain for people who daily have to do business out of state. Trying to keep track of the time to deal with customers in different time zones is hard enough. Imagine what it would be like to be only one state in the area that is basically in a different time zone.

Arizona and Hawaii are the only states that doesn't recognize daylight savings time.

I say no. This, to me, is just another topic Tennessee legislatures address to waste time.

Had a roommate who grew up on a farm in Central Indiana when the state was split between Central and Eastern time and, as I recall, counties could exempt themselves from DST. Again, as I recall, they had to use four clocks during the DST months: home, school, church and doctor.

Seems like what they really want is to observe DST year round. Nobody likes to "fall back" and have it get dark earlier but unless you stay on DST it happens that way. I seem to remember that back in the 70's they did keep DST year round for a while.
