Canned Jellied Cranberry Nightmare

It tends to ooze and slide out of the can and land on the plate making a horrible Splorp! sound. It tends to be marked with indelible ringed impressions which uncomfortably resemble the contents of a can of Old Roy dog food. And if it is called "sauce" it should never stand vertically like that on a plate.

The cranberry deserves far better treatment.

Besides, recent studies show that toxic chemicals accompany this alleged food item. So don't serve it or buy it, unless you only present it to the table as a form of inedible sculpture.

Merry Thanksgiving!

  1. Actually, I kind of like the sound cranberry jelly makes sliding out of the can. But I always make my own cranberry sauce, and this year have decided to do the green bean casserole from scratch, too.

    Merry T-Day to you, too!

  2. it is a memorable sound - as long as it is not prelude to serving that stuff up as food, LOL.

  3. Hey, that was a staple at our house when I was growing up. Mom cooked the turkey, made stuffing from scratch, made cranberry/orange relish from scratch, gravy, etc. For some reason, we loved the jellied cranberry stuff from the can. Of course, with 6 kids and visitors for Thanksgiving, plenty of food was a necessity.

  4. well M, more than 130 studies show that BPA exposure at very low doses is linked to a staggering number of health problems, including prostate and breast cancer, obesity, attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder, brain damage, altered immune system, lowered sperm counts, and early puberty.

So as for me, canned jellied cranberry is best used as sculpture only.

Finally something I can blame my weight problem on.. Seriously, I think almost everything we ate growing up in the 70's/80's contribute to the health issues we face today...
