GOP's Pledge, Day 2: More Lying To Americans

The myths and lies from the Republican leaders - and their talking heads-of-state (Limbaugh, Beck, Hannity, etc) - have been a staple of their lives for so long, they're losing all contact with reality.

It did not just start with Limbaugh's pledge to do everything in his power to make the President Obama fail. The previous president, G.W. Bush, waved they myths and lies flag to claim there were clear reasons to go into war in Iraq, and to also claim "mission accomplished" in Iraq years before the goal had been reached.

The sad, sad truth is many Americans believe the lies and myths. Are they that gullible? That afraid? Or is it that they expect their leaders to be trustworthy?

Sarah Palin's sunrise is really a sunset run backwards.

Senators Corker and McConnell prefer fictions.

The news media can't seem to offer facts to challenge the lies.

    Obama has never lied.
    Democrats never lie.
Politicians are selfless workers for their constituents.
Politicians, but only Democrats, are always honest.
Your favorite "news" stations & sources are always 100% truthful and unbiased.

It's sad that you believe such nonsense.
    You are fooling yourself.

  3. please Anon - tell me what my favorite news station is. i'd like to know.

Pres. Obama has made many, many statements during his election campaign detailing what he would like Congress and his administration to make into policy. Republicans blocked most of it. If he works to enact policies which are blocked, then in your mind, i suppose, that constitutes a "lie".

And you Anon refuse to face the reality that President Bush and his administration lied to American and Congress to enact war.

You refuse to admit that the Republican leaders (Limbaugh, Hannity, Beck, Bachmann, Newt, Plain and many more tell total fictions to sell bona fide crap to Americans:
    lies like
    "death panels"
    "Obama is not American"
    "Obama is a Muslim"
"Obama is spending $200 million for a state trip to India"
    "Obama is a communist"
    "FDR caused the Great Depression"
"Democrats want to confiscate all yer guns"
    this is an absurd list.

the video link from Rachel Maddow above details specifics and quoted policy plans from the Republicans. your answer, Anon, is "Democrats lie too", which pretty much means you either a) can't refute the facts mentioned or b) you prefer to avoid the reality and whine instead that "Democrats" do it too.
    that's what is called a "non-denial denial".

here are some more lies from the GOP:
    1) President Obama tripled the deficit.
Reality: Bush's last budget had a $1.416 trillion deficit. Obama's first budgetreduced that to $1.29 trillion.
    2) President Obama raised taxes, which hurt the economy.
Reality: Obama cut taxes. 40% of the "stimulus" was wasted on tax cuts which only create debt, which is why it was so much less effective than it could have been.
    3) President Obama bailed out the banks.
Reality: While many people conflate the "stimulus" with the bank bailouts, the bank bailouts were requested by President Bush and his Treasury Secretary, former Goldman Sachs CEO Henry Paulson. (Paulson also wanted the bailouts to be "non-reviewable by any court or any agency.") The bailouts passed and began before the 2008 election of President Obama.
    4) The stimulus didn't work.
Reality: The stimulus worked, but was not enough. In fact, according to the Congressional Budget Office, the stimulus raised employment by between 1.4 million and 3.3 million jobs.
    5) Businesses will hire if they get tax cuts.
Reality: A business hires the right number of employees to meet demand. Having extra cash does not cause a business to hire, but a business that has a demand for what it does will find the money to hire. Businesses want customers, not tax cuts.
    6) Health care reform costs $1 trillion.
Reality: The health care reform reduces government deficits by $138 billion.
    7) Social Security is a Ponzi scheme, is "going broke," people live longer, fewer workers per retiree, etc.
Reality: Social Security has run a surplus since it began, has a trust fund in the trillions, is completely sound for at least 25 more years and cannot legally borrow so cannot contribute to the deficit (compare that to the military budget!) Life expectancy is only longer because fewer babies die; people who reach 65 live about the same number of years as they used to.
    8) Government spending takes money out of the economy.
Reality: Government is We, the People and the money it spends is on We, the People. Many people do not know that it is government that builds the roads, airports, ports, courts, schools and other things that are the soil in which business thrives. Many people think that all government spending is on "welfare" and "foreign aid" when that is only a small part of the government's budget.

Also Anon, if you think I claim Democrats are saints, you don't read here very much. It shows you have no facts to back up your claims and you just want to whine.

    Finally, someone says this.

Jobs are about demand. So when I hear "conservatives" market themselves as tax cutters while implementing policies that offshore jobs and corporate profits drive and down wages and in the long term reduce income taxes by mostly reducing the incomes the taxes are based on, I think something is wrong.

One needs to recall Clinton's first budget and the GOP rhetoric that surrounded it. The world did not end and the economy did not tank.
