A Very Unscientific Survey

The following is meant to be a probe of reader's opinions, and as David Letterman might say, "please, no wagering". It's also a chance for readers here to share their views and ease my curiosity about the world around me and around you. So take a few moments, and leave a response. Much thanks!

1 - Is illegal immigration in the U.S. at a critical phase or is this issue being used to distract Americans from other problems?

2 - On illegal immigrants, the Senate has okayed a plan to build a 370-mile section of fence and the deployment of troops on the southwest border. Do you think this will help resolve the issue?

3 - Much press is given to the plummeting approval ratings for President Bush. His wife said such polls are meaningless. Has your view of the President, whether you voted for him or not, changed in a positive or negative direction since he took office?

4 - The state is considering a statewide increase to the minimum wage to $6.15, Good idea or not??

5 - Of all the movies hyped for release for summer, have you said, "Oh I got to see that one!" and which one is it (if any)?

Thanks. Tried to keep this one very short and simple. Have at it!

  1. 1 - Illegal immigration in the U.S.
Illegal immigration is a red herring. The real issue is that Hispanic population in U.S. is growing much faster than other ethnic groups, and it will change the social and political structure of the U.S. permanently. We're becoming a part of Latin America, whether we want or not.

2 - On illegal immigrants, the Senate has okayed a plan to build a 370-mile section of fence and the deployment of troops on the southwest border.
It will just hasten the inevitable uprising of Hispanic population in the U.S.

3 - Has your view of the President, whether you voted for him or not, changed in a positive or negative direction since he took office?
His incompetence has surpassed my wildest imagination.

4 - The state is considering a statewide increase to the minimum wage to $6.15, Good idea or not??
Election year politics. Nobody can live with $6.15/h so it's just so much lip service.

5 - Of all the movies hyped for release for summer, have you said, "Oh I got to see that one!" and which one is it (if any)?
I'd go see "Gigli" if it meant I could go out with my wife without the kids.

Huh? What? Oh, sorry. I was just checking my backyard to make sure no illegals were trying to cross into Fleaflicker without the proper paper work.
Seriously, I can't afford health insurance, and we're spending tax dollars to deploy the NG to the border??? Please to explain...

2 - On illegal immigrants, the Senate has okayed a plan to build a 370-mile section of fence and the deployment of troops on the southwest border. Do you think this will help resolve the issue?
And again...Seriously, I can't afford health insurance, and we're talking about spending tax dollars to build a giant fence??? Please to explain...

3 - Much press is given to the plummeting approval ratings for President Bush. His wife said such polls are meaningless. Has your view of the President, whether you voted for him or not, changed in a positive or negative direction since he took office?
Since he "took" office (he certainly wasn't voted into office), my view of him has been pretty much on target. It's the rest of America playing catch up.

4 - The state is considering a statewide increase to the minimum wage to $6.15, Good idea or not??
Even better would be a Fair Wage. I can't see how anyone could live on $6.15 an hour. And by live I mean: Pay rent, pay utility bills, pay a phone bill, buy gas, buy food, buy clothing, afford reasonable healthcare, afford to keep either a) keep an auto running or b) buy a new/used auto, put something in your savings and set something back for retirement. You do that on what amounts to about $200 a week (after taxes)? By all means, raise the minimum wage, but don't pat yourself on the back for it.

5 - Of all the movies hyped for release for summer, have you said, "Oh I got to see that one!" and which one is it (if any)?
    X-Men... gotta see that.

  3. 1 - Is illegal immigration in the U.S. at a critical phase or is this issue being used to distract Americans from other problems? Crock. Of. Shit. I assume you've seen this? Look out, White America! They're coming to get you!

2 - On illegal immigrants, the Senate has okayed a plan to build a 370-mile section of fence and the deployment of troops on the southwest border. Do you think this will help resolve the issue? Yes, and also, pigs are flying out of my butt.

3 - Much press is given to the plummeting approval ratings for President Bush. His wife said such polls are meaningless. Has your view of the President, whether you voted for him or not, changed in a positive or negative direction since he took office? I'm with Mackee on this one. My expectations were low, but I never could have foreseen the depth and breadth of the outrageous fucking mess the Bush Administration has gotten us into.

4 - The state is considering a statewide increase to the minimum wage to $6.15, Good idea or not?? I'm with Newscoma here. It's better than nothing, but not by much.

5 - Of all the movies hyped for release for summer, have you said, "Oh I got to see that one!" and which one is it (if any)? The new Superman. Brandon Routh is seriously cute.

So what will you be doing with your survey results, Joe?

  5. 1 - Is illegal immigration in the U.S. at a critical phase or is this issue being used to distract Americans from other problems?

It's a distraction. It's been going on for years, while everyone looked the other way. The only reason it has come up now is as a wedge/GOTV (the "conservative" vote) issue for the mid-terms.

2 - On illegal immigrants, the Senate has okayed a plan to build a 370-mile section of fence and the deployment of troops on the southwest border. Do you think this will help resolve the issue?

No, it's about the stupidest idea to come out of Congress in a while, and that's saying a lot.

3 - Much press is given to the plummeting approval ratings for President Bush. His wife said such polls are meaningless. Has your view of the President, whether you voted for him or not, changed in a positive or negative direction since he took office?

My opinion of him was negative before, and it's even moreso now. The only thing that puzzles me is why it has taken people so long to catch on.

4 - The state is considering a statewide increase to the minimum wage to $6.15, Good idea or not??

    Good idea.

5 - Of all the movies hyped for release for summer, have you said, "Oh I got to see that one!" and which one is it (if any)?

The Mrs. thought "Over the Hedge" or whatever it is looks fun. I was mildly interested in "V for Vendetta", but it's not a summer movie and I never went to see it. The last movie we saw in the theaters was "Good luck and good night." The last one before that was F/911. I guess we aren't your real moviegoing types any more.

  7. 1 - Is illegal immigration in the U.S. at a critical phase or is this issue being used to distract Americans from other problems?

I’m sorry, I wasn’t paying attention. There was this shiny thing here and it was so pretty…

2 - On illegal immigrants, the Senate has okayed a plan to build a 370-mile section of fence and the deployment of troops on the southwest border. Do you think this will help resolve the issue?

Has building a fence ever solved anything? Ever? I mean, this has got to be one of the stupidest things I’ve heard. “I know – we’ll build this really kick ass fence. That’ll totally keep those barbarian invaders out!”

3 - Much press is given to the plummeting approval ratings for President Bush. His wife said such polls are meaningless. Has your view of the President, whether you voted for him or not, changed in a positive or negative direction since he took office?

Feh. You get what you pay for.

4 - The state is considering a statewide increase to the minimum wage to $6.15, Good idea or not??

I don’t live in TN but according to this Los Angeles Times Article, no American will work at a dirty job – no matter what you pay them.

5 - Of all the movies hyped for release for summer, have you said, "Oh I got to see that one!" and which one is it (if any)?

Yeah – The LA Clippers playing in the NBA Finals.

  8. 1 - Is illegal immigration in the U.S. at a critical phase or is this issue being used to distract Americans from other problems?
    Distraction.

2 - On illegal immigrants, the Senate has okayed a plan to build a 370-mile section of fence and the deployment of troops on the southwest border. Do you think this will help resolve the issue?

We could always just build a fence on the equator and then the Dictator in Thief could make everyone down to that fence an American citizen.

3 - Much press is given to the plummeting approval ratings for President Bush. His wife said such polls are meaningless. Has your view of the President, whether you voted for him or not, changed in a positive or negative direction since he took office?
I didn't like it when Chimpy stole the office, and I don't like him now. He is an asshat, and I believe his administration is dangerous.

4 - The state is considering a statewide increase to the minimum wage to $6.15, Good idea or not??

It seems to me to be a political manuvering. I agree with The Editor, Fair Wages are needed. We need real reform so people can take care of themselves. It's frustrating. I'm not saying raising the minimum wage is a bad idea, it needs to be raised. Sometimes I wonder why we don't tie in politicians salaries to the minimum wage. They seem to get cost of living increases quite a bit.

    1) Illegal immigration... there's no more or less than before. The people are just brown. That scares Washington. I believe if we opened the borders and made marijuana and cocaine legal, the Mexican, Central and South American farmer types would stay home and be able to make a decent living.

    2) A fence! What tomfoolery. It will only lead to more deaths as people try to circumvent it through more hostile desert.

    3)George Bush: once an idiot...

    4) Minimum wage needs improving, but our "elected officials" need to have their salaries cut. If they represent the common man, they shound get common wages... how about $50,000/year. That seems fair, unless they're already wealthy. Then they don't need any salary.

    5) The only movie that sounds even remotely interesting is "An American Haunting." (is that the right title?)

    ReplyDelete
  10. yes, American Haunting - based on the Tennessee Bell Witch tales.

I do want to see the third X-Men, plus A Scanner Darkly and Southland Tales, in hopes it will be as good as Donnie Darko was. it's hard to beat last summer's line-up though of the Star Wars finale and a Romero zombie movie. another Omen? feh.

anyone out there like/approve of Bush's term?? Bueller??

  11. 1. Is illegal immigration in the U.S. at a critical phase or is this issue being used to distract Americans from other problems?

Illegal immigration is a distraction, like flag burning and gay marriage. There is an election coming up, and it is in vogue to hate the Republicans right now, even amongst Republicans. They have to do something to get their base back on their side.

    2. On illegal immigrants, the Senate has okayed a plan to build a 370-mile section of fence and the deployment of troops on the southwest border. Do you think this will help resolve the issue?

No, of course not. Did you see the Colbert Report last night? They did a field piece on these Minute Men who are building a 400 yard fence on the border. It was ridiculous. The idea of building walls at all chills me to the bone. What are we becoming in this country?

3.Much press is given to the plummeting approval ratings for President Bush. His wife said such polls are meaningless. Has your view of the President, whether you voted for him or not, changed in a positive or negative direction since he took office?

Well, I knew he was evil, but I didn't know he was also crazy.

    4. The state is considering a statewide increase to the minimum wage to $6.15, Good idea or not??

It is better than nothing. Here in FL we get $6.40. It isn't enough, but it is better than just scrapping the whole idea.

    5. Of all the movies hyped for release for summer, have you said, "Oh I got to see that one!" and which one is it (if any)?

"A Scanner Darkly". Everybody should have a bit of Dick in her summer.

    Also "X3".
